Bookish

I lifted this from Steph.

0. Take five books off your bookshelf.
1. Book #1 -- first sentence
2. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
3. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
4. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
5. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
6. Make the five sentences into a paragraph.

Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. She was in a place full of sunlight. He was a magician of secondary abilities, but a consummate politician, who had succeeded in remaining in power through his ability to play his colleagues off one another. He jumped up suddenly and bolted out the door. As Mo had said: writing stories is a kind of magic, too.

First Book: Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Second Book: The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice
Third Book: The Golem's Eye by Jonathan Stroud
Fourth Book: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Fifth Book: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

10 Things

So I just found this on mom's blog and, hey, I need to kill time until Chloe wakes up (then we're watching Angel). So here, my loyal readers, is the 10 Things meme.

The idea is to note things you've done that you think might be unique or, at least, rare. You might be surprised by how many people end up saying "Hey, I've done that, too!" List them in your blog and let the fun begin. (Alternatively, you could add your list in comments here or put a link back to any entry you write.)

1. Rode in an SUV with a mini horse in the back. He was small. What was the point of hitching up the trailer?

2. Pierced my nose. Twice.

3. Been to Hempfest.

4. Blown up a studded condom.

5. Weathered three hurricanes on a sailboat.

6. Served spaghetti dinner.

7. Been to Oregon Country Fair.

8. Dressed up like a pirate.

9. Sat in a tire at the happiest place on earth.

10. Blown up a jellyfish.

Thursday Challenge: Green (Five Days Late)

Let Me Ask You

Ad It Up

I'm stealing an idea from Mary that she did in a post awhile ago. It was something to do (and I've been having an urge to blog lately), so here it goes. All you do is hit up The Slogan Generator and slap whatever you get on some pretty pictures.

My Late Contribution

For Saint Patrick's Day. I know, I know, I'm Irish I should put some effort into this holiday, but I even forgot to wear green, so this is what you get.

clickies.

Introducing . . .

After much internet buzz, the band Kirkham Lancashire has finally released their very first album, But Stories We've Got, and plan to go on an international tour this Fall.

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ The third picture, no matter what it is, is your album cover. You then take the pic, add your band name and the album title to it, and then post your pic to your blog.

Go Ahead

Guess who's day I made? Uh, duh. My mommy's of course. I'm pretty sure I make her day every day.
I'm totally giving it back to her (of course), but I'll also send it on to
1. Qacei. She updates less often than most, so of course her posts make my day. They're witty and often filled with fabulous pictures.
2. Gillian and Craig (and Effie and Fergus, of course). I love hearing about the crazy hijinks they get up to over there in Canada.
3. Craig. Pretty much the greatest music blog ever devoted to the strangest bands you've never heard of.
4. Diana! What can I say? It's Diana. Her never-ending enthusiasm makes my day every time I encounter it.
5. Abbi. Her posts are random and sharp and often they have something Johnny Depp related. Uh, big thumbs up.
The rules:
1. Write a post with links to five blogs that make your day.
2. Acknowledge the post of the award giver.
3. Display the “You Make My Day Award” logo.
4. Tell the award winners that they have won by commenting on their blogs or emailing them the news.

A Softer World

Happy Birthday Chloe!

I'm soooo glad you were born. There aren't even words to express how freakin' glad I am to have you. Sure, we've had our ups and downs and there was that whole me-hating-your-entire-existence phase right after you were born, but, hey, we got through it. And really, even then I totally loved you and you know it. Cuz, damn, looking back, you were the cutest thing on two short little legs and you smiled like this:

I mean, who can resist that scrunched up little face? Nobody. Especially these fine citizens who created you.

You came to us on March 11th, 1994 and 14 years have come and gone since that day.

And each and every day since then has been a little bit more memorable because you were there. Just c'mon and tell me that this doesn't brighten up your day:

I mean, freakin' adorable, no? Just look at that kid! (Your sister's not so bad, either.)

When you came the family was complete and happy. We've had rough spots (duh), but it's been no problemo to get through them when you've got a family like ours.

You, Little Bird, are quirky

sweet

giggly

playful

cute

fun

witchy

classic (not unlike Abbey Road)

graceful

smiley

weird

beautiful

strong

contemplative

goofy

serious

enlightened

and exquisite.

I'm so very lucky to have a sister like you. One who's my best friend, who indulges me (if reluctantly), who I can lean on and who leans on me, and one who just makes everything fun.

I honestly don't know what I'd do without you. You're my rock, my guide, my very closest friend, and my very favorite person.

Dude, and all these awesome people you've brought into our lives!

And you let me take photos of you! And guess what? They turn out amazing because you, Little Bird, are freakin' gorgeous.

So, to sum up, you rock hardxcore (with an 'x' and everything, dude). You're my hero, my best friend, my savior, my partner in crime, and my very favorite sister ever. You boogie down,

you insited for a time that you were actually a changeling,

and, sure, you've got your head in the clouds sometimes,

but it's absolutely a good thing.
So . . .
